Mark Young leads the development of a unified technical vision, architecture, and roadmap to help The Climate Corporation deliver an industry-leading digital agriculture platform. Mark has more than 20 years of experience in Silicon Valley and previously served as a Director of Mobile Product Excellence at Yahoo, the Chief Technology Officer of Mobile Technology at Zynga, and the Founder and Chief Technology Officer at HipLogic. He has a B.S. in Computer Science from Purdue University.
Growing up on a New Jersey farm, Mark offers a unique perspective on digital ag. He can discuss his views on the relationship between ag and new tech innovations, in addition to the challenges ag tech startups face and solutions to those challenges. Specifically:
● Digital ag needs to evolve to an open ecosystem model to speed innovation to farmers
● No one provider will ever have complete digital solutions for farmers – we need to embrace solutions from both startups and established players, and bring them together on a consolidated platform.
● Digital ag is equal parts tech innovation and agriculture experience – in this evolving space, new tech is only as good as its ability to deliver true value to farmers and their bottom line.
Under Mark’s leadership as CTO, the company’s Climate FieldView platform has developed into the industry’s first and most broadly connected digital ag platform, visually capturing a farmer’s data as he or she passes through a field and providing a wide range of insights that help farmers with their key management decisions in real-time.
Founded in 2006 by former Google executive David Friedberg, Climate was sold to Monsanto in 2013. Since then, The Climate Corporation has made great strides in transforming the way farmers are able to produce food for the growing population through data-driven, digital tools.
Climate FieldView is quickly moving digital ag from the early-adopter phase into mainstream farming, offering premium/paid services on more than 35 million acres in the U.S., Brazil and Canada and operating on more than 100 million crop acres across the U.S. and global regions today.
